Drawing the Collections: UMass Amherst Science & Engineering Libraries

Sarah Gay recently partnered with the University of Massachusetts for the Drawing Collections Series, an initiative designed to bring the campus’s Natural History Archives and special collections into public awareness through art. She led the kickoff workshop, guiding participants in observational drawing as a way of slowing down, looking closely, and connecting with both material and place.

We Make Noise Festival 2025 Celebrates Feminist Art

Sarah’s work was featured in Matri-ART: Generations of Resistance, part of We Make Noise Fest 2025. This annual festival celebrated women and gender-expansive artists through music, visual art, digital activism, and community marketplace events.

The festival was presented by Mass NOW, the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women, a historic grassroots feminist organization advancing intersectional justice since 1968, alongside the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and BID Boston. We Make Noise provided a platform for diverse creators, centering feminist principles and fostering inclusive spaces of community and resistance.

Matri-ART: Generations of Resistance highlighted the long history of feminist, queer, Indigenous, and BIPOC movements pushing against systems of oppression. The exhibition uplifted intergenerational voices, connecting past struggles with present-day movements for equity, bodily autonomy, and collective liberation.

ArtBeat Festival 2024, Somerville, MA

Sarah’s work was recently selected to represent the theme “Wild” at ArtBeat, an annual, full-sensory street festival in Davis Square presented by the Somerville Arts Council. ArtBeat draws thousands of visitors each year to experience a vibrant mix of art, music, dance, food, and interactive installations.

The theme “Wild” resonated deeply with Sarah’s current body of work, which explores natural rhythm, intuition, and openness. Her piece was selected as part of ArtBeat’s annual celebration of creativity in Somerville.
